I’ve seen a colt unconscious -
Rise!
It’s rear hoofs clean -
Rise
Sun not overwhelmed by sleep
And grass not nearly blue.
You’re bound to see a mountain there
So great that you could hold it in embrace
With painful face yet placid eyes
For a wolf too harsh to bite
Transparent to a lion’s glare.
And though no water runs through this domain
A willow’s growing from your mouth.
I’ll be washing you with my own tongue,
Keep spitting so it doesn’t dry.
Our hair won’t get brittle
Despite heated gale,
Our hands won’t get pale
Despite piercing ray
The panther though in different skin
Walks on about and bites.
Her offspring lone afar
In humid woods behind.
Have they found a way to some other milk?
Or have their claws grown stiff?
Though you worry not….
We’ll plant for this willow
A garden, underneath this other Sun.
And won’t sip the milk
With our trembling claws.
